STUDENT VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME

with

Head2Head Theatre

During the holiday periods Easter - Autumn Half Term we tour South London and SE England with our Family Holiday Activities.  We invite our host schools to nominate 2 students (Actor and Front of House/Stage Management) who will benefit from working with our team of actors gaining valuable life skills' experience:

ACTOR:  The student will receive guidance and support throughout our visit and during performances.  [Please note that there is no pressure to perform as a cast member can take over the role at any moment].  On both mornings the student will be rehearsed into a role and have a chance to practise the song with the actors.  They will be sent excerpts from the script and a link to a sound file of the backing track for the song - we will supply  pre-recorded Voice Output Communication Aids, if needed.  The student will receive a link to our advance pack.  They will be involved in all participation moments and will receive mentoring and guidance on how to involve audience members into our interactive show. Moira Burnish, our disabled Student Volunteer Programme Assistant, may attend.  Moira has previously acted as a Student Volunteer and will be able to give help and reassurance, where needed.

Important:

-       We ask that whoever accompanies the student should stay for a minimum of 60 minutes to ensure that they are settled in and have no concerns.

-       Although the actors will work with the student during rehearsals and performances they will take breaks when the student may not be accompanied.  If this might cause anxiety, or the student may need assistance during the day, we recommend that whoever accompanies them remains at school but, in order to preserve your independence, not immediately present.

FRONT OF HOUSE/STAGE MANAGEMENT:  The student must be accompanied by a carer or family member.  They will be given the following duties:

- Front of House - welcoming families, with some makaton signing and showing them around.

- Stage Management - re-setting props for performances.

- Audience Participation - encouraging families to interact with the performers.

- Sensory Tent & Merchandise Table - keep tidy and encourage families to participate.

The host school will receive a report on both students that, if appropriate, may be included in a work portfolio.

If you have any questions please contact us and we will do our best to answer them.
